Age Range Questions
My child is 6 years old. Can he participate in the camp?
The age range is from 7 - 11, but we have had a 6-year old in the camp last year and she was great! Basically, we are alright with having a 6-year old at the camp, but we might need to have a short conversation with her beforehand, just to see if she'd be interested.
My child is 14. Is she too old for the camp?
Though the age range is from 7 - 11, we welcome older ages too. We believe that no matter what age they are at, the more important aspect is the level of learning. Since schools generally do not teach entrepreneurship, all participants will be at a beginner's level. It is surprising to see how a 7-year old and 12-year old make good team mates.
Career Choices Questions
I want my child to consider the line of medicine when he grows up. Is this camp relevant?
Whatever your child grows up to be, this camp will be beneficial. This camp does not aim to produce entrepreneurs, but instead, our objective is to generate more entrepreneurial minds. This basically means that, your children will be able to carry this knowledge with them when they grow up to achieve all that they want to. An entrepreneurial mind is one that is sharpened with business sense, money matters, leadership skills, enjoying teamwork, resilience, self discipline, finding inner strength, being intrinsically motivated and more.
My child has more of a scientific mind. Is this camp for her?
That's great! Whether the child is more inclined towards her left or right brain, this camp will fit right in. We have various activities to wet anyone's palette of curiosity. There are creativity games, calculations, puzzles, building something from nothing, mind trivia, quizzes, mind stimulating activities, songs, dances and more!
Skills Learnt Questions
What will they learn at the camp?
Basically, they will learn about entrepreneurship, business sense and money matters. They will also learn about leadership and followership, working effectively in a team, handling grievances, building their confidence, speaking in public, ethics, responsibility and more.
My child is soft-spoken. Will she feel left out at the camp?
Not at all. We have had many participants who were not that outspoken when they came in. Their parents were already apologizing at the beginning of the camp, at how their child might be too quiet. But, the children are strong and smart. After a few hours into the camp, they were already blending in. It helps that our method is to not stress the participant out, but to encourage them to come out in their own time. We are confident that they will. Plus, our many activities will get them to want to speak - or else, they know they'd be missing out on opportunities to bag a prize!
Can my child learn to improve his confidence levels here?
We believe so. We believe that every child is exactly what he or she is - a child. And children are filled with joy inside of them, no matter what. Sometimes, it takes time for this confidence and joy to be displayed, but we manage to do it everytime to every kid at the camp. Maybe it's the many activities we have, the fact that every participant must work together in teams, they have to present in front of everyone, they have to create something out of nothing. Because our activities vary so much, at least one activity will trigger that interest in your child. This is the concept of Multiple Intelligences. And once we see this spark of interest, no matter how small, our facilitators will work on that aspect of the child. It is interesting to see some transformations that take place at our camp!
My child finds it difficult to speak in public. Can this camp help?
Yes, we believe so. We have many activities and competitions where participants must come out and speak in public. Based on our observation, we notice that at first, some participants tend to reserve themselves. This is not an issue, and we never force them to speak if they don't want to. But then, they get into groups and because our activities encourage so much of group interaction, they become comfortable, first with speaking with the members of their team, and then to the rest.
My child has very strong leadership skills. Can this camp help enhance that or put it to good use?
Most definitely. We believe that every child is a leader. It's just that sometimes, for many reasons, this leadership skill decides to hide within them. We group participants in teams of different ages and genders, where there will be one leader. At every activity, this Leadership role changes, so someone else gets to be a leader. This helps because then the ones who have this Leadership skill hidden within them will shine, and the one who has always been the Leader will have to learn to cooperate. In the past, we noticed some dominant and competitive characteristics in participants, and how they control the team. But once the facilitator sees this (in fact, we expect this to happen) they will counsel the team. Concepts of leadership and team spirit will be taught at the camp.
My child is really loud and noisy at home, but is quite reserved among her classmates. Can this camp help?
We notice that sometimes, this is the case. Not to worry, it is just the roles we play in our lives. One of our facilitators did a DISC test (a personality test) and was shocked to find that she was labelled "Dominant" at work but "Passive" at home. Same person, 2 very differing personalities in different environments. This happens. We see this in our teams at the camp too. The parents will point this out to us, and we will observe the child. Our approach is not to force the child to change, but to observe her ways, and observe what activities interest her. When we see that spark of interest, we will gently coax the 'lion' inside of her to roar!
Facilitators Questions
How many facilitators are there?
The number of facilitators will depend on the number of participants. Usually, we will have 1 facilitator for every 5 - 6 participants. We have one main facilitator, and the rest will walk the ground, observing the participants
Do the facilitators come from a background of education?
The main facilitator, Sharmila has an MBA from the Victoria University, Australia. She has lectured in the Diploma and Degree programmes in Business and served in the Management Team in a private college. She has also trained teachers, lecturers and students in schools. The other facilitators would usually have experience or qualification in education. More importantly, all the facilitators will undergo training on what to do during the camp.
